Nowadays, the competition in mold processing is becoming more and more fierce, but the precision requirements for processing are getting higher and higher. If you do not improve your processing technology and skills, you may be eliminated by the industry at any time, or even fail to receive orders. Ordinary parts processing plants have become accustomed to the bad news about the manufacturing industry: such as declining sales, layoffs, and increased foreign competition. However, in our precision manufacturing field, the situation is quite the opposite: the operation of the processing plant is showing a strong momentum. Some people claim that this phenomenon is an irreversible development trend in the metal cutting processing industry. These trends include: a wide variety of small parts, precision tool technology and "mass production according to order". To meet this demand, we need to have precision cutting processing technology.

The most important thing about this type of manufacturing technology is to highlight the word "precision". It is not enough to describe this type of processing with strict tolerances. Steve Barani, foreman of Remco Swiss, said: "Inaccurate tools cannot be used in this type of processing. For example, a tolerance of 0.125mm is not enough." Vince Robisch, president of the company, believes that a tolerance of 0.125mm is completely unacceptable.

To illustrate his point, President Robisch introduced a micro screw with a diameter of 1.575mm as an example. The screw is turned from beryllium bronze bar. When turning the screw, the tool should be close to the guide sleeve, and the distance should not exceed 0.508 to 0.635mm, otherwise the material will be bent.

Robisch believes that Swiss turning is the only way to process small parts, and other types of machine tools are not competent. This processing has the following two characteristics: (1) There is a fixed guide sleeve; (2) There is an axially movable front center seat. Unlike ordinary lathes, the Swiss-type lathe moves along the Z axis by the workpiece, while the tool moves radially along the X axis. In addition to the structural shape of the tool and the workpiece, an important aspect of maintaining accuracy is that the tool/workpiece contact point should be as close to the machine tool guide sleeve as possible, generally 0.635 to 1.016 mm. The specific size depends on the workpiece diameter. When the diameter is small, the distance should be shorter. President Robisch believes that during processing, the guide sleeve is fixed and the tool is close behind it-the tool must never be far away from the guide sleeve. These two conditions combined can achieve high precision. The machine headstock moves back and forth with the bar stock, allowing the workpiece to be cut by the tool.

  • Q How does GDM realize mirror processing of precision molds?

    A
    For GDM, this is not a problem. "If a worker wants to do a good job, he must sharpen his tools first." GDM has more than 200 sets of mold processing equipment, and imported the precision processing equipment of Mu Ye, Toshiba, Mitsubishi, Mitsui, Okamoto and other brands from Japan, while Japanese Mitsui and Okamoto CNC grinders ensured the mirror processing accuracy of precision molds from the source.

    Daikin not only has absolute advantages in equipment, but also has advanced high-precision processing technology in the industry to ensure the stability of processing.

    The following exhibits have a smoothness RA of Ra0.01, a dimensional accuracy of 0.001, and a flatness of 0.001, which are advanced processing accuracy in the industry;
    Processing scheme: rough machining → semi-finishing → finishing → precision grinding on Mitsui grinder equipment to finish the whole mirror processing. We adopted imported grinding wheels from Japan and the standardized parameters of experience precipitation of  GDM, which ensures the machining accuracy and avoids the scratches of grinding wheel impurities on the workpiece surface.
